Sending a letter is quite easy but it obviously involves more steps than sending an email. After you have written your letter, you just have to enclose it within an envelope. Affix one forever stamp (costing $0.49) or one first-class letter stamp at the top right corner of the envelope. Forever stamps are used for mailing 1-ounce letters that are considered the standard size within the U.S.
In case your package weighs more than an ounce, affix another Forever stamp. For letters weighing below 3.5 ounces, First class letter stamps are ideal. If your letter weighs more than 3.5 ounces, you can still manage by paying $0.21 extra for every extra ounce. The First class stamp will ensure delivery within three days.
When you are using forever stamps, the maximum weight of the package can only be an ounce. But in case of a First class letter stamp, the maximum weight can reach up to 3.5 ounces. The weight of the package will increase when you will add more letters, for obvious reasons. If the stamps are not affixed in accordance with the weight, your letter will not be delivered. Also, it will be sent back to your address.
More about Forever stamps:
More about the Forever stamps include the fact that the United States Postal Service (USPS) created the forever stamps in 2007. They are non-denominational First class postage, which means that they can be used to mail letters irrespective of the ongoing postal rates.
Consider the case of the year 2013, when a normal sized letter of an ounce or less could be mailed for $0.46 within the United States. The following year the rate increased by $0.03. People who bought the forever stamps at $0.46 in the year 2013 could still use them to send letters in the year 2014. There was no need to add additional postage amount.
Hence, forever stamps can be used to mail letters weighing one ounce or less regardless of when they were bought. They are sold at the same price as a regular first-class mail stamp, at all times. The first Forever stamp was sold in the year 2007, in April. It featured an image of the Liberty Bell.
In 2011, all the first class one ounce stamps became Forever stamps with a few exceptions. Forever stamps can be used for international mail also but additional postage must be attached. This is because international prices are higher than the domestic ones.
