5 Best Places To Go Camping In Canada’s Maritime Provinces

When the weather starts to warm up and cabin fever is coming to an end, it’s time to start looking for places to enjoy some fresh air.

The Eastern Provinces, specifically the Maritimes, offer a spectacular array of camping possibilities. There is something for every taste. 

If you want secluded and far from the hustle and bustle of the city, there is that. If you want a camping experience that is more social, then there are campgrounds that are situated closer to civilization.

Whatever you’re looking for you’re sure to find it at any of these 5 camping locations in the Maritimes. If you’re a city dweller, then hop in a rental car from anywhere including in Montreal’s gay village and hit the road for some adventure this summer.

Terra Nova National Park, Newfoundland & Labrador

Easily accessible right off the Trans-Canada Highway is a campground with sweeping views of the Atlantic. The campground is well situated within the center of the par with all the amenities you need. 

The park itself offers kayaking and canoeing to explore the rocky coastline. This is an area where whale watching can be done from the beach and it is not uncommon to see them breaching playfully while you picnic on the beach.

Lockston Path Provincial Park, Newfoundland & Labrador 

Also located in Newfoundland is this more secluded campground. This time the campsite is not on the ocean, but nearby. It is inside a forest with plenty of hiking and nature trails.

If you want to see some moose out in the wild, then this is the place to go.

The camping is rustic with a few amenities for laundry and showers, but if you want more modern comforts then you should bring along a generator.

Mactaquac Provincial Park, New Brunswick

For a more adventure-packed camping trip, try this one in the Mactaquac Provincial Park Campground alongside the St. John River.

Besides the plethora of spots for swimming and fishing, there is also ziplining and windsurfing. Relax at your tent, but go high adrenaline when the mood strikes.

When you want a leisurely day, then hit the golf course within the park.

The camp itself is equipped with tons of modern conveniences like hot showers and kitchen shelters. There is a convenience store to stock up on groceries and things like firewood.

Five Island Provincial Park, Nova Scotia

Stunning views of the sea cliffs along the coast highlight this impressive campsite. There is easy access to the beaches which see the most extreme tides in the world. Go clam digging or sea kayaking to get a true taste of coastal living.

Then head back to camp and enjoy hot showers and flushing toilets.

Jacques Cartier Provincial Park, Prince Edward Island

The renowned explorer knew a good thing when he saw it so when he declared it to be one of the fairest places to see, people soon followed.

This campground provides easy access to everything the island has to offer. Enjoy walking trails that run through the park, or hit the beach to do some fishing or just enjoying the sun and sea.
