Iran shot down a $176 million U. S. drone in the Strait of Hormuz (as claimed by the U.S.), destabilizing the tension between U. S. and Iran even more. It was an RQ-4A Global Hawk drone which is meant for sea surveillance. Interestingly, the U.S. and Iran are delivering different stories about the same incident.
During an Oval Office meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, for the drone being shot down, Trump said:
“I find it hard to believe it was intentional if you want to know the truth. It could have been somebody who was loose and stupid that did it,”
“I would imagine it was a general or somebody who made a mistake in shooting the drone down,” He also said that fortunately the drone was unarmed and had no man or woman in it. If it had been so, it would have made a really big difference.
“I have a feeling — and I may be wrong and I may be right but I’m right a lot — that it was a mistake made by somebody that shouldn’t have been doing what they do,” he said. “I think they made a mistake and I’m not just talking about the country made a mistake somebody under the command of the country made a mistake.”
He also called Iran’s move to be foolish and added that the country will not stand by it. On the other hand, Iran stood by its statement that the drone was purposefully shot.
Gen. Hossein Salami, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said: “Shooting down the American spy drone had a clear, decisive, firm and accurate message,” he said, translated from Farsi. “The message is that the guardians of the borders of Islamic Iran will decisively respond to the violation of any stranger to this land. The only solution for the enemies is to respect the territorial integrity and national interests of Iran.”
